Frequently asked questions
About Dr Moses
1. Is Dr Moses a medical doctor?
Yes. Dr Bassam Moses is a fully qualified medical doctor who has completed specialist training in Sport & Exercise Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (FACSEP). He is not a GP or physiotherapist.
2. What is a Sport & Exercise Medicine Physician?
A Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) Physician is a specialist doctor who focuses on the non-surgical diagnosis, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal injuries and medical conditions. They treat a wide range of patients—from elite athletes to everyday individuals—helping them improve function, reduce pain, and return to activity.
3. Do I need to be an athlete to see Dr Moses?
No. Dr Moses treats people of all ages and activity levels, including children, recreational exercisers, office workers, seniors, and elite athletes.
Treatments & Procedures
4. Does Dr Moses perform injections?
Yes—if clinically appropriate. Dr Moses may offer ultrasound-guided injections and other specialised procedures, performed in his consulting rooms. However, these are not done during the first consultation. You will first receive a thorough medical assessment, and any treatment such as injections will be arranged for a separate appointment.
5. Does Dr Moses perform treatment at the first consultation?
No. Injections or other interventions are scheduled separately for several important reasons:
- Comprehensive care: Dr Moses prioritises patient understanding, informed consent, and detailed discussion during the first visit.
- Clinical preparation: Some injections require specific instructions and pre-treatment planning.
- Customised medication: Certain injectable products must be specially ordered.
- Time allocation: Every patient receives unhurried, safe, and individualised care in a dedicated time slot.
This structured approach ensures high-quality treatment outcomes.
6. I’ve been advised to get PRP. Can I book directly for the injection?
No. While referrals for PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy are common, Dr Moses must first assess you personally to confirm if PRP is suitable. He will use his medical expertise to recommend the most effective treatment option for your condition.
7. Should I get imaging before my appointment?
No. Please wait until after your initial consultation unless specifically advised otherwise. Dr Moses will assess your condition and, if necessary, organise the most appropriate imaging. If you’ve had scans previously, please tell our team where they were done—we will retrieve them in advance whenever possible.
Appointments & Referrals
8. Do I need a referral?
Yes. A referral from a GP or specialist is required to receive a Medicare rebate. You may self-refer as a private patient, but Medicare rebates do not apply without a valid referral.
9. How many appointments will I need?
Most patients require only a single initial consultation. Follow-up appointments are only needed for treatments or reassessments. The initial and follow-up fees differ—our staff will explain the costs at booking. Dr Moses aims to provide a clear diagnosis and treatment plan from your first visit.
10. How soon can I get an appointment?
Private patients are usually seen within 1–2 weeks. Urgent cases are triaged. If you’re a WorkCover or CTP patient, please send us your referral and claim details early so we can fast-track the approval process.
11. Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Yes. However, we require at least 48 hours’ notice. Late cancellations or non-attendance may limit your ability to book future appointments or require prepayment.
Dr Moses allocates specific time for each patient and does not double book or rush appointments. Late cancellations significantly disrupt the schedule, reduce access for other patients — including those on urgent waiting lists — and impact the overall flow of care. By providing sufficient notice of any changes, you help ensure other patients receive timely and uninterrupted care.
Billing & Insurance
12. Does Dr Moses bulk bill?
No. Consultations are privately billed. If you have a referral, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate. WorkCover and CTP claims are billed directly to the insurer once approval is confirmed. Our staff will assist with claim submissions and approvals.
13. Can I receive my Medicare rebate on the spot?
Yes. We offer on-the-spot Medicare rebate processing. Please bring your Medicare card to your appointment.
14. Does Dr Moses treat WorkCover, CTP, or DVA patients?
Yes. We accept WorkCover, CTP, and DVA patients. Please ensure you provide all referral and claim information before your visit so we can arrange necessary approvals.
15. Can I use a GP Management Plan (Care Plan) to see Dr Moses?
No. Dr Moses is a specialist doctor, not an allied health provider. GP Management Plans (Care Plans) are designed for services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, or dietetics.
16. Is private health insurance accepted for consultations?
No. Private health insurance does not cover consultations with specialist doctors in their rooms. Medicare rebates may still apply with a valid referral.
